40th Birthday Poem

Marg, you’ve reached the big Four-0,

And so this birthday rhyme

Will celebrate your life so far

And takes you back in time…

To __ December; a new family member,

1970 was the year,

A little Christmas Fairy, for Tommy and Mary

Brought early Christmas cheer!

Days hard to beat on ______ Street

With Maria, John, Ian and Julie

A happy child, sensible and mild

Never acting unduly!

Fab at Forty, but never been naughty

In fact a goody two-shoes, I’m told

A Prefect at school, living by the rules

Always good as gold!

A sweet disposition; an aspiring musician

Marg took up playing the guitar

In the school choir, Marg never did tire

Of singing “There’s No One Quite Like Grandma”!

All passes, no fails, at St Frances De Sales

Led to a place at Broughton Hall

Where term after term, our little bookworm

Was determined to give it her all!

Marg’s guilty pleasure is her ‘made-to-measure’

A shopaholic from an early age,

Working all she could at Littlewoods

To blow all of her Saturday wage!

Our Scouse version of Kyles, experimenting with styles

Growing up, trying the latest trends

Her hair was less WOW and more 80’s T’Pau,

Unrecognisable to her friends!

Panic stricken, once caught eating chicken

Hot out of the oven one day

As Marg did allege that she was a Veg

..Some would say that’s definitely FOUL play!

Marg took great pains pulling pints at Cains

Back in ’93 when hired,

By Wiggy and Griff and good friend Nik

Although her skills left a lot to be desired!

Next at the Croc, Marg hid her shock

I’m surprised we didn’t appal,

In our messy state, meeting our new mate,

The party girls of Childwall!

Well, we didn’t offend, as our new found friend

Joined us on a jaunt to Falaraki

To party and revel, although Lynsey’s Breville

Still made Marg question if we were tacky!

Marbella was funny, running out of money

When we couldn’t spend the euro any faster,

To economise, we cooked up a surprise,

…Tomato soup to top our pasta!

Dressed as sexy Robin, the fellas hearts were throbbin’

In Marbella, on Christina’s hen do

And at the Dubai Cup, the jockey’s were all fired up

At Marg, the Man Magnet, it’s true!

With the girls, globetrotting the world,

Plenty of laughter and tears,

We’ve made memories galore and I’m sure there’ll be more,

As we roll on down the years!

So, if there’s one thing you take, from this birthday keepsake

Then Margaret please let it be this:

You’re a friend so true, and we all love you

Here’s to you, our Little Miss Chris!

So a BIG ‘Congratulations’,

Let the celebrations start

Please raise your glass, to a lady who’s world class

And forever young at heart!!
