Supplier Spotlight: For Better Or Verse

"For this week’s supplier spotlight, Helen of For Better or Verse has written a bit about what it means to have personal touches included in your wedding which is something that I completely agree with. Her beautiful poetry is a creative way to make give your wedding a personal touch.

“Personality is the glitter that sends your little gleam across the footlights and the orchestra pit into that big black space where the audience is.”
Mae West – actress.

Approaching our first year anniversary this weekend (29th August), I’ve been reminiscing lately just how wonderful our wedding day really was. I’m often asked if there is anything I would change in hindsight, and the answer is always a BIG.FAT.NO. ‘Wonderful’ is actually an understatement. The wedding was an elegant-romantic-oh-so-perfect-fairytale day! And I’m quite certain the reason it was so successful was because I religiously stuck to my mantra of Personalisation is Key! Weddings have really evolved over the last decade, and there are so many ideas and options out there to ensure you create the most perfect, personal day. But how personal is personal?! It is quite possible you may select the same theme, décor, dress or cake as other brides; something your guests may have already experienced.
So, how do you set your wedding day aside from all the rest?

A unique way to truly personalise your day and give your guests an insight into your romance is with a bespoke, personal poem about your relationship. There will, of course, be your nearest and dearest attending your day, and quite possibly some guests who are not so close. So giving ALL guests an insight into you, your day, your celebration, is a perfect way to involve everyone and create that je ne sais quoi atmosphere you’ve been dreaming of.

A special, bespoke poem about your own love story, from first date to proposal, could be recited in a speech, given as a wedding party gift, place setting or favour. My hubby proposed in December 2008, so as a Valentines’ gift two months later, I penned him a poem entitled ‘The Proposal’ which we gave each guest as a place setting.

They are perfect ice-breakers guaranteed to make your guests laugh AND cry! Ideal for any Best Men, Father’s of the Bride or indeed Grooms’ (or Brides?) nervous of public speaking, wanting to deliver an eloquent, heartfelt, sincere speech with a double dose of humour!

So why not let For Better or Verse add a touch of magic to your special occasion and tell your beautiful story in rhyme?

Verse of the Day

A Divine Image by William Blake

Cruelty has a human heart,

And Jealousy a human face;

Terror the human form divine,

And secrecy the human dress.
